Energy efficient street lighting

Energy efficient street lighting

Westminster is the first council in England to install the latest remote-controlled energy-saving street lamps called Urbis Furyo. These lamps use less energy and as a result help to cut carbon emissions. Their light output levels can be remotely controlled at different times of day, for example, the strength of these lights can be set at 75% for times of day when full strength is not required – such as dusk.

These new lamps are currently being piloted in a project on Harrow Road and have already been shown to reduce electricity along this stretch of highway by 40%. The saving in carbon emissions is the equivalent of planting an extra 14 trees.
